Staff Meeting Notes - 02/14/2017


Attendance: Sue Kaufman, Frank Smith, Joy Oria, Becky Grimes, Irene Walters, Margie Dumas, Steven Bychowski; Note Taker Melissa Hayes.

5 Minute Resource Share: Find my past: PERSI. www.findmypast.com ; See handout for tips.  Steven, Irene and Sue worked on 2 methods to utilizing the PERSI component moved from Heritage Quest. Create free account. Then utilize either the tips from the handout or find another path and report the tips to the staff. 

Overview of Managers meeting: Read the email about the meeting. Consult the Blog postings. Look at the Training portal for trainings. Volunteer for programs and events that are scheduled through HPL.

Family Search Partner Meeting Reports:  Sue talked about the partner meeting with Family Search at Roots Tech 2017 and her work at the Book scanning both.  Turnaround time from scanning to uploading is about 24hours.   She gave statistics of images online and books scanned.  7.8 million Images scanned.  Mid- Continent Public Library has started a pilot program called the Hub & Spoke to reach out to community libraries, historical society and genealogical societies to digitize more books.  The books are sent to the library for digitization and sent back to the owner.    Our project being discussed is called the “Hurricane Corridor”  where books and documents will be scanned.  

Copyright date ”1924” new project will be to create a list of our books that have not had renewed copyright established ; (Orphan book project 1924-1964) Stanford University has a list of Orphan book .Details have not been worked out yet.  Arizona State has 263 copy right books open to partner libraries for library patrons to read on Family Search.” 1 person at a time”, can read said book if book has copyright restrictions.    If problems arise with Family Search, Sue can send email.  Report  problems or issues to Sue to confirm problem.

Sue and 2 other made at the partner’s meeting about genealogy on a local, state and national level ‘Linking you to the World”; emphasis with a genealogy slant.

Reminder: Funds are available for continuing education for a local or national event; pre-funding or advance to attend an event or conference.  Speak with Sue and let her know.  Remember to watch webinars as well.  Please document on blog spreadsheet.

Joy presented her theme for Women’s History month display. All can join in by posting a postcard size picture with details about a special woman in our lives.  She is working on Asian Pacific Heritage Month in May and others.

Our theme for FY2018: programing will be “Occupations” run with it!

Irene introduced Mitchell “Mitch” Clendening is our new part-time CSC who started last week. He will work on the book collection project starting with Nevada.   Margie will start with the Alabama books after she finishes with the foreign collection updating. 

Becky reminded up to get the customer using the meeting rooms to fill out the blue form and bring it back to the library when they have finished using the room.  Walk –in do not need the blue form, have then fill out the white form and return that with the use count when they leave the room.

Frank reported that the guest house is open for use and the elevator works!
