Staff Meeting Notes from 15 December 2016

  • 5 Minutes Resource Sharing:Melissa shared the benefits of Hoopla on the HPL website. When a customer searches our catalog, they can select Hoopla from the menu on the left hand side of the page to view digitized books. A good search strategy is to start broad, and browse through the titles. We can mention this resource to customers, which is available to them at home as well as in the library.
  • Friendly Reminder: Be sure to fill in the blanks in your schedule, whether you do it at the beginning or end of your day
  • Lynda.com: This website offers many free educational resources, which can count towards our continuing education credits.
  • Friendly Reminder: Be sure to keep track of your continuing education on the 2017 spreadsheet. Enter the length of training in minutes; this will make it easy to calculate at the end of the year. Only enter the raw data,  "58" instead of "58 minutes".
  • Please complete required training, ie. webinars on Homeless customer service and required TLA webinars. Follow instructions on emailing certificates of completion.
  • Sue will forward an email to all of us about basic training for supervisors. It contains information we may be interested in perusing.
  • Clayton Library won a safety award. Good job team!
  • A HPL organizational chart was sent out via email regarding higher-up executives and who they report to.
  • New shelf reading assignments coming up in January.
  • Friendly Reminder: Remember to shelve books when you can and to show appreciation for our great volunteers!
  • In January our cataloging team will start adding the URLs to our digitized books to their entries in the catalog. Customers will have more success viewing the books using Internet Explorer instead of Chrome. Customers can use ctrl+F to search for key words if they're using Internet Explorer.
  • Our volunteer luncheon is tentatively scheduled for January 30th.
  • Melissa is getting ready to put in a book order. Let her know if you have any suggestions.
  • Sue distributed help cards to everyone, with information on services for our homeless customers or other customers in need. Between Christmas and New Year's Clayton staff can bring in blankets, sheets, and clothes (especially slender men's pants) and Sue will take them to the center across the street from us.
  • We currently have no information on when the first floor renovation will begin.
  • The Guest House renters should be out by January 14th at the latest.
